a normal mechanism of eye which reduces spherical aberrations as retinal photoreceptors are more sensitive to perpendicular than oblique rays

why does spherical aberrations occur? because the lens is convex, rays from the periphery are refracted more and hence they do not come exactly to principal focus thus causing blurring of peripheral margins of image. so to reduce this the retinal photoreceptor sensitivity is itself less for peripheral rays thus reducing the aberration.
